PRIVACY POLICY

BCN NYC LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the mobile application CATATRACK (the “App”). This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information when you use the App.

If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the App.

2. Scope

This policy applies to the App on devices where you install it. It does not apply to third-party websites or services that we do not control (for example, ad networks or map tile providers), except as described below.

3. Information we collect

3.1 Account and identifier

We use Firebase Authentication to create and maintain an anonymous user account tied to your device/session. That gives us a unique user ID so the App can save your data and (where you use social features) associate you with groups.

3.2 Ski resort activity and profile information

To provide core features, we process:

  • Ski resorts you mark as visited (and related visit metadata the App stores).
  • A display name or nickname you choose, used in the App and when you participate in groups.

3.3 Friend groups (optional)

If you create or join a group, we process:

  • Group names, invite codes, membership, and per-member visit summaries (for example, lists or counts of resorts visited) needed to show leaderboards and group features.

Other members in the same group can see information the App displays for that purpose (for example, nickname and visit-related stats).

3.4 Push notifications (optional)

If you enable notifications on your device, we may use Firebase Cloud Messaging to deliver messages about group activity or app-related updates. To do this, we may store a push token, platform, and language preference associated with your account in our backend (for example, in Firebase / Firestore) so notifications can be routed and localized.

You can turn off notifications in your device settings at any time.

3.5 Advertising

We use Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) to show banner ads. AdMob and its partners may collect and use identifiers and usage-related data to measure performance and deliver ads, subject to their policies and your device settings (including Limit Ad Tracking / Opt out of Ads Personalization where available).

3.6 Maps

The map loads map tiles from a third-party provider (currently Carto via basemaps.cartocdn.com). When you view the map, your device sends standard technical requests (which may include IP address and request metadata) to that provider as part of loading tiles.

The App does not request access to your device’s precise location (GPS) for the map as implemented; the map centers on resorts and regions using app data.

3.7 Sharing and system features

When you use share features, content is sent through your device’s native share sheet to destinations you choose. We do not control those services.

3.8 Technical and usage data

Like most apps, we and our service providers may automatically collect technical information such as device type, operating system version, app version, diagnostic logs, and IP address, as needed to operate, secure, and improve the App and our backend.

4. How we use information

We use the information above to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the App (including sync, groups, and notifications).
  • Personalize content such as language for notifications where applicable.
  • Show advertising through AdMob.
  • Protect against fraud, abuse, and security issues.
  • Comply with law and enforce our terms.

5. Legal bases (EEA/UK users)

Where GDPR applies, we rely on contract (providing the App), legitimate interests (security, improving the product, advertising where permitted), and consent where required (for example, notifications or certain cookies-like technologies via third-party SDKs, depending on your region and settings).

6. Sharing with service providers

We use Google Firebase / Google Cloud (including Authentication, Firestore, and Cloud Messaging) and Google Mobile Ads. These providers process data on our behalf under contractual terms. Their privacy documentation describes their practices:

We may also share information if required by law, legal process, or to protect rights, safety, and security.

We do not sell your personal information for money. Advertising may involve sharing of identifiers with ad partners as described in AdMob’s documentation and your platform settings.

7. Retention

We retain information as long as needed to provide the App and for legitimate business purposes (for example, security and legal compliance). Some data may persist in backups for a limited period. You may request deletion as described below, subject to legal exceptions.

8. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

9. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export certain information, or to object or restrict certain processing.

U.S. state privacy laws: Residents of certain states (including California and Virginia, and others with comprehensive privacy laws) may have additional rights. We describe personal information collection in Sections 3–4 above.

EEA/UK/Switzerland: You may have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

10. Children

The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

11. International transfers

We may process and store information in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) for transfers from the EEA/UK/Switzerland.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and update the “Last updated” date. If changes are material, we will provide notice as required by law (for example, in-app notice).
